A notice was sent out yesterday by the Department of Education (DOE) to the American Samoa High School Athletic Association (ASHSAA) that the ASHSAA season has been suspended, due to the recent outbreak of ‘Pink Eye’ in Tutuila.

Sports affected are: Girls Varsity/Junior Varsity Basketball, Baseball and Boys Varsity/Junior Varsity Soccer.

All of the ASHSAA games scheduled to be played today (Friday),as well as  tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday have been canceled until further notice by the DOE.

When the ASHSAA season does resume, in the Girls Varsity basketball division, the Tafuna Warriors will lead the way with their undefeated record of 5 win and 0 losses; the #2 seeded Samoana Sharks are not far behind.

These two top teams were scheduled to meet next Monday, April 7, but will now have ample time to improve on their play with this time off.

In the Girls Junior Varsity basketball division, the Fa’asao Marist Cougars have been playing impressively, which has lifted them to the #1 ranking in the division with a record of 6 wins and 0 losses. Right behind the Cougars are the Warriors, whose last game was a loss to the Cougars.

On the baseball field, each team will also have ample time to improve on their pitching, fielding and hitting during this suspension of the season. The defending champion Fa’asao Marist Crusaders are sitting in the middle of the standings with the Sharks right above them and the Warriors leading the way. The Leone Lions have only one win so far, with the Faga’itua Vikings still looking for their first win.
