The Accrediting Commission for schools (ACS), Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) announces the action taken to grant accreditation to Nu’uuli Poly Tech High School, through June 30, 2020 with a two day mid-cycle review. This was revealed in a letter from Commission Chairperson, Valene Staley sent to the former Principal Saouila Fanene Kava on July 4, 2014 following their visit to the school.

The letter says that the action of accrediting the school was taken after a “careful study of the Visiting Committee report, which identified school wide critical areas for follow-up that need attention.” The mid cycle review requires a written progress report and a follow-up visit, and the progress report and visit should demonstrate that the school has addressed the critical areas for follow-up through implementation of the school wide action plan, and also improved student achievement relative to the school wide learner outcomes and academic standards.

Samoa News notes that Mrs. Kava is no longer Poly Tech’s principal — she’s now working at the ASDOE main office.

The letter further reminded that accredited schools are to annually contribute members from the school staff or district to participate on visiting committees.

Lastly WASC congratulated Poly Tech High School and congratulated Mrs. Kava for her continued support and commitment to improving the school. Staley also pointed out that they look forward to the continued efforts to facilitate school improvement and foster student learning.

Samoa News notes that the high school’s name is also Nu’uuli Vocational Technical High School (NVTHS).
