The reigning champions, Tafuna High School will remain the no.1 seed in the varsity division and will proceed into the play offs with a clean record — still undefeated, after beating the only team that could’ve outdone them this season, the Fagaitua Vikings who sailed back to the east side scoreless – after not playing a full game this past Thursday evening.

The Warriors beat the Vikings 20-0 after the game was called in the second quarter.

Adults and numerous Fagaitua fans who were present to watch the ‘Battle of the Toas’ part two, were incensed late in the second quarter, when head official Mike White signaled for the ejection of one of Fagaitua’s most threatening weapons, Oly Ta’ase. This brought Fagaitua head coach Ta’ase onto the field to fight for his player, along with a majority of the fans crowding onto the sidelines after the referee made his call. (Samoa News notes that Oly Ta’ase is Coach Ta’ase’s nephew.)

On Tafuna’s sidelines, one of their coaching staff was hard to hold back. He headed towards the middle of the field, calling out to the Fagaitua side – and this had the Vikings grandstand storming toward the field. It was a sad situation that the players for the Vikings had to keep their own fans from crossing mid-field so as not to start what would’ve been the biggest fight in this year’s football season. 

Numerous years in the past, it was Tafuna playing the role of the bad guy — throwing rocks at school buses and cars heading back to the east side. But with their lesson learned from past experience, not one fan took the field when the Vikings side poured onto the field.

ASHSAA Director Tumua Matu’u brought the game to halt in the second quarter because of supporters who just couldn’t let the game be a game.

THE GAME

As the game started, the Warriors defensive unit surely lived up to their reputation, as they managed to stop the Vikings three times in a row, inside of Tafuna’s red zone. They say that the team with the most mistakes is most likely to lose, but in this case, the first quarter started out with Tafuna making numerous mistakes, more in the decision-making part of the game, but as to performance, they were outstanding.

They were so in control that it almost seemed as if they were teasing the Vikings who were just inches away from the end zone, but just couldn’t punch it in. The Vikings had three shots at the end zone three times inside of Tafuna’s red zone, but the Warriors defensive unit not once let up or opened an opportunity for Oly Ta’ase or Anthony Tovia for a touchdown.

Thus when the game was called, the Vikings were scoreless and the Warriors had 20 points on the board.
