Apia, SAMOA — Almost half a kilogram of marijuana was intercepted by the Police K9 unit at the Post Office in Apia through a joint effort with the Ministry of Customs and Revenue (MCR).

The 489.9 grams of compressed marijuana arrived in the form of brown hashes with the Police making no arrests thus far following the discovery.

Deputy Police Commissioner, Papalii Monalisa Tiai-Keti confirmed to Samoa Observer that police are yet to obtain the illicit drugs and investigations cannot commence until they are in Police custody.

"We are still liaising with the Ministry of Customs on the matter and the STID team will soon obtain the drugs from them and once we do, we will start investigations," she said.

"There's a chain of evidence we also need to look into and it also depends on the information given to us by the Ministry of Customs."

According to the Deputy Police Commissioner, information on how and who exported the marijuana to Samoa is yet to be confirmed.
