Auckland, NEW ZEALAND — New Zealand has welcomed in 2021 with a huge firework display after 'eliminating coronavirus'.

The stunning display marks one of the world's biggest firework shows of the New Year.

Crowds gathered at the waterfront to watch the show as the country entered 2021 11 hours before the UK, according to GMT.

Christchurch also held a firework display to welcome 2021 after the city's council manager said the event followed a "challenging year".

Tanya Cokojic said: “2020 has been a challenging year and we are going to see it out in style.

"When the clock strikes midnight we are going to light up the sky above Hagley Park with a stunning display of fireworks from the Firework Professionals.”

Samoa became the first country in the world to welcome 2021 and also marked the New Year with a firework display of the capital city of Apia.
