Motorists who travel the Ilili to Airport Road are pleased that the government has re-striped the lane that turns into the road heading to the Tradewinds Hotel.

Rep. Larry Sanitoa, in a letter Thursday to Public Works director Faleosina Voigt, said several residents in the past have called him to report “near miss accidents” in this particular area and have expressed their concerns for the safety of the traveling public.

“ And at last it was quite a pleasing sight to see the lanes and turn-in all properly marked. On behalf of the motorists and residents that travel the Ili'ili to Airport Road, I extend a ‘fa'afetai tele lava’ to DPW for finally re-striping the turn in lane to the Tradewinds Hotel,” he wrote.

Samoa News had received several calls in the past about near-miss collisions in this particular turn-in lane, because it’s not clearly marked. One caller, who says she had her two young kids with her, said her car nearly missed being hit by a van at the turn-in because no one could tell where the turn-in lane was and “everyone else was just going which ever why they want to.”

“Frequent travelers on this area, know there is a turn in lane to Ottoville — heading to Tradewinds, but there are a lot of drivers, who don’t know,” she said.
