Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — StarKist Samoa is hiring. Due to the critical need for workers and the impact it would have on the local economy if the head count is not improved, Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga and StarKist Samoa Director Jason Kim issued the following joint statement on Tuesday:

“StarKist is hiring almost every week, but we are not getting the employment numbers needed. Now is an excellent time to secure employment and we are hiring for all shifts,” said Kim.

Kim met with Governor Lemanu last week to further discuss ways to improve StarKist’s headcount. Lemanu notes that this lack of workers has a negative impact not only on StarKist but on American Samoa and the local economy.

“Our economy relies on StarKist Samoa and they need the workers to keep the plant operating,” said the Governor. “We support StarKist Samoa during this challenging time. We have the workers, and we need them to get back to work.”

StarKist Samoa has implemented several programs including providing incentives to employees based on attendance and for referring in new hires. A majority of the jobs are for fish cleaners, but there are also vacancies in special skilled areas such as mechanics, electricians and forklift operators.
