The American Samoa High School Athletic Association (ASHSAA) Girls Varsity Volleyball championship game ended with the West Side team taking the honors, by dominating the game with a 3 out of 4-set win.

It was awesome play in all sets, with the East Side Team working it, but falling short: 25 - 15; 25-23; 25-13 and 25-16.

The Most Valuable player for the tournament was awarded to Lina Tema of Tafuna High School.

Both teams had potential, but inconsistencies in their strategic game plan and unresponsiveness to get the balls at all times made for some hard losses, with the team with the least errors taking the win.

In games such as these, at the championship level, service balls should never be a point to the opposition, yet, a lot was given away on those faults on both sides.

On the other hand, the heat was on in the last two sets of the match — where you started to witness great spikes on both sides earning points, respectively, and some were blocked well, highlighting the beauty of the game when played at this level.

The Awards ceremony followed after a great talk and fa’amalo from Ben Tau, Principal of Leone High, who represented the West Side and ASHSAA. He thanked the players for showcasing sportsmanship skills in volleyball, and hopes they will continue to improve their game skills which would lift the sport to yet another level of play.
