All 10k participants will receive an Olympic Day Run tee-shirt with awards given out per age category men’s/women’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd places based on race day age. There will also be medals for men’s/women’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall fastest times. Last year’s first place finisher in the 2012 Olympic Day 10k run was Christian Duchnak, who finished with a time of 48 minutes 11 seconds.

Olympic Day, which is an annual event recognized around the world and is celebrated on June 23, was changed locally due to the ASNOC administration being off island at the time. The International Olympic Committee granted the request on June 11 to have the local celebration changed from the recognized worldwide date.

According to the Olympic Day website,, on June 23, Olympic Day is celebrated around the world: hundreds of thousands of people, young and old, participate in sports activities such as runs, exhibitions, music sessions and educational seminars. Over the last two decades, the event has helped to spread the Olympic ideas to every corner of the world.

It’s interesting to note, the fastest Road 10k run in the world was set in October of 2008, when Hillary Kimaiyo of Kenya had a blazing time of 26:01.2, according to the Running Times.

Another event that will be taking place on August 3 along with the Olympic Day festivities will be a wrestling tournament put on by the Ca-Boom Wrestling Club, ending their highly successful free summer wrestling clinics conducted by Gannon University wrestling coach Don Henry and former Gannon wrestler Sean Floor.

The club says weigh-ins for the tournament are at 8:30 a.m. for anyone wishing to compete and the event will be at their training site located at the Veterans Memorial Stadium, inside the white building on the Eastside of the football field.
