Bar fight at airport escalates, man in critical condition, suspect still at large

A man is in critical condition at the LBJ hospital after a fight which allegedly escalated inside a bar and proceeded out to the parking lot at the Airport.

According to police, they received a call from bystanders that a man was lying unconscious after he was struck by a vehicle. Witnesses told police that the victim was running when the suspect allegedly hit him with his car. When the victim fell, the suspect got out, fetched his cricket bat and allegedly struck the victim several times. According to police, the victim was rushed to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery due to the severity of his injuries.

Police said when they arrived at the scene the victim was lying unconscious and the suspect had fled, leaving his vehicle and the bat he allegedly used to strike the victim.

According to police, the victim suffered a severe cut on his head with injuries to his legs. The suspect’s vehicle has been impounded at the police lot and the cricket bat allegedly used has been confiscated as evidence.

Police have been looking for the suspect since the incident occurred around 2 a.m., early Sunday morning, April 7, 2012, according to police.

As of press time, the Department of Public Safety was still looking for the suspect, who police say lives in Vaitogi.

In the meantime the victim is in the Intensive Care Unit receiving medical treatment.

Calls for an official comment from Deputy Commissioner Leiseau Laumoli, spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety, were unsuccessful as of press time.
