It's that time of year — Volleyball

It is that time of year again, when the best volleyballers will be coming out showcasing their skills and showing off their talent. Following a highly successful volleyball clinic this past summer conducted by the American Samoa Volleyball Association (ASVBA), comes this years 2014 International Volleyball Tournament hosted by the ASVBA.

The last volleyball tournament hosted by the ASVBA was the Flag Day tournament back in April during the 2014 Flag Day festivities. During that time there were 44 teams competing in five different divisions that included a Women’s, Queens, Men’s Open, Men’s 19 & Under and Men’s Open divisions.

Josie Afu Muasau of ASVBA says that any team that wants to participate to contact him as soon as possible at 252-7064 or to contact Savaliga Afu at 731-0711.

Keeping on schedule, the American Samoa High School Athletic Association (ASHSAA) will be starting their girls varsity volleyball season this afternoon with seven teams competing this year to see who can knock the reigning champion Tafuna Warriors from the perch where they have been sitting for two straight years in the varsity division.

Today, during the season opener, the Warriors will be hosting the Faga’itua Vikings. At the same time, right down the street at the South Pacific Academy Dolphins gymnasium, the Leone Lions will be taking on the Nu’uuli VocTech Wildcats. Both of these games have scheduled starting times of 4:30 p.m.

ASHSAA will soon be coming out with the girls junior varsity volleyball schedule. Keep reading Samoa News for the latest ASVBA and ASHSAA Girls Volleyball news.
