Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The Taema of Leone with captain Senator Faiivae Alex Godient and Matasaua of Manu’atele, with Motusaga Tuileama Nua at the helm, tied for 6th place after they were unable to complete the race.

When Taema started taking on water — their oars were raised — the Matasaua offered Taema assistance, in a respectful and honorable display of sportsmanship and camaraderie in this highly competitive race.

As a result the Matasaua also began to take on water.

All were returned safely shore with the help of the rescue crews of the Department of Search and Rescue.
