Fa’asamoa Arts & Siapo Maker brings the Samoa art to a Hawaii audience
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Executive Director of Fa’asamoa Arts & Siapo Maker, Reggie Meredith Fitiao on Wednesday, May 15 hosted an art show and guest party at Aloha Ballroom Company to demonstrate the art of Siapo making and its history.
She is pictured here during an interview on Hawaii News Now (HNN) earlier this week.
Fitiao is a fourth generation siapo maker, dating back to her great-grandmother Saiselu Tuimalealiifano Meredith, one of the women who made siapo in Leone.
She said her brother Tony Meredith is actually the founder of Aloha Ballroom Company and he graciously offered his studio to be a space where she can display some of her artwork for guests to come see and experience.
Fitiao will be leading the American Samoa siapo/ arts contingent that will be in Hawai’i for the 2024 PacFest, set to be held in June.
