Honolulu, HAWAII — As American Samoa-Hawaii quarantine for its second repatriation flight gets underway, the Honolulu based Le Fetuao Samoan Language Center under the leadership of CEO and Founder, Mrs. Elisapeta T. Lesatele Alaimaleata, continues to find ways to help and support its Samoan people in quarantine at the Ohana Waikiki Hotel.

Le Fetuao made its second donation, along with the help of partners and businesses in Hawaii, which include the Kaimuki Youth Development Organization (KYDO) CEO David Tautofi, a native of Nu’uuli village; Fukunaga Products of Aiea, the Peters family from Mapusaga, American Samoa; Chef Hui (local cooks and food service providers throughout Hawaii); Anthony’s Cancer Foundation and the Tagata Tutu Faatasi Alliance of American Samoa (TTFAAS), on Monday, Mar. 1, 2021, to the ASG Hawaii quarantine, through its Hawaii Office Director, Tuiafono Vai Sua and also Gingerlei Porter, the CDC Foundation Logistics Manager, who works with ASG’s Dept. of Health in spearheading the quarantine in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Le Fetuao outreach services started since Summer of 2020 when they worked side by side with UH-TASI, Samoa Methodist church leaders in Hawaii, Kanana Fou CCCAS, Rotary Club of Hawaii and Food Alliance to assist stranded college students and residents of American Samoa.  Through Ms. Porter, Le Fetuao continues to be able to assess and answer the needs of American Samoan residents in quarantine.

Mr. Kiso Skelton, a Gagana Samoa (Samoan Language) teacher at Le Fetuao Samoan Language Center (SLC) and president of the Pacific Clubs of Chaminade University, volunteered to help put together the care bags donated to quarantine residents.  Skelton is a graduate of Tafuna High School. The donation on Monday, Mar. 1st, included 125 bags filled with Personal Protective Equipment including fabric and disposable masks. Also included in the bags were hand sanitizers, disinfectant wipes, toothpastes & toothbrushes, jerky, health bars, healthy snacks, and fruits (bag of oranges, apples and ripe bananas).

In addition to donations of cases of water and snacks for the staff on Monday, Starbucks gift certificates were also donated by the Nikolao-Stanley family and were presented to Porter as a token of appreciation for the hard-working staff members and volunteers of Repat #1.

Le Fetuao continues to express its gratitude, to all their local partners and businesses in Hawaii “that lent a helping hand to support our efforts to provide a healthy care bag for our stranded residents in quarantine.”

The Le Fetuao Language Center’s mission statement, as posted on its Facebook page, reads; “Helping youth & adults in Hawai’I to learn and embrace the Samoan Language & Culture”.  And with this mission in mind, Le Fetuao also lent to the ASG Hawaii Repatriation; 10 Ukuleles, 20 iPads and Samoan books as a quarantine education check-out system at the hotel to help residents.

Le Fetuao also answered the ASG Department of Youth and Women’s Affairs’ (DYWA) call for help, by donating funds for Arts and Crafts materials for young children who are also in quarantine.

“Partnership with the community is important to any government operation,” stated Alaimaleata. This is why Le Fetuao is prepared to continue donating towards all future ASG quarantines in Honolulu, Hawaii.
