Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata met with Rear Admiral Matthew W. Sibley, head of the historic 14th District Coast Guard.

The 14th District has more than 1,150 active duty, 150 reserve, 80 civilian, and 400 Auxiliary men and women, and covers the Coast Guard’s largest area of responsibility. In all, this extensive District includes an area of more than 14 million square miles of land and sea, with units on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, the island of Hawaii, and in American Samoa, Saipan, Guam, Singapore and Japan.

As District Commander, Admiral Sibley oversees 25 operational units ashore and afloat throughout the Pacific. These Coast Guard units regularly perform missions in maritime safety, protection of natural resources, maritime security, homeland security, and national defense. The Admiral met with Congresswoman Amata, and she was briefed on operations in the Pacific, along with updates on force modernization.

“The nation, and the vast Pacific region in particular, are so fortunate to count on the operations of Admiral Sibley and those serving in the Coast Guard,” Congresswoman Amata said. “The 14th District provides a wide range of missions and support for American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Marianas, our friends in the Freely Associated States and elsewhere. They are consummate professionals through and through, I appreciate the briefing and more insight into their life-saving responsibilities, and I look forward to continuing to work with the Coast Guard.”
