Amata supports Senate confirmation of Secretary of the Interior
Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is welcoming the bipartisan Senate confirmation of former North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, by a vote of 79-18, as Secretary of the Interior.
“I’m happy to see Secretary Burgum promptly confirmed, and with an administration change, it’s best for American Samoa to get established stability in place leading DOI,” said Congresswoman Amata. “As a two-term Governor and former CEO, Secretary Burgum has substantial executive experience as he takes on this very large federal department.”
“Through the Office of Insular Affairs, American Samoa’s closest federal working relationship is the Interior Department, and I am confident Secretary Burgum will be an effective friend and partner for our Territory.”
As a Member of the Cabinet, President Trump has also chosen him to chair a National Energy Council, and he will have a seat on the National Security Council, giving him three key dovetailing roles in the Trump administration.
