Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — After days of bad weather, many residents are hoping for good weather this weekend, which is expected to be a busy one with Halloween and the last weekend of campaign events heading into next Tuesday’s general election, when electors go to the polls to vote for the governor and lieutenant governor, Delegate to the US Congress and the 20-elected seats of the local House of Representatives.

Tomorrow, Saturday, is Halloween and some events are already scheduled such as the South Pacific Academy annual Halloween Carnival at the school grounds (see advertisement in Samoa News throughout this week). The event starts at 4pm and traffic in this area is expected to be busy.

At least two other private schools are holding their own Halloween events as well during the evening hours.

Congresswoman Aumua Amata’s annual Halloween gathering is slated to start at 10a.m. tomorrow at the Fagatogo Square building parking lot and a large crowd of children — and adults — is expected to turn up as in the past events.  (See Samoa News advertising this week for details.)

Children are expected to head out to other areas of the island early tomorrow evening for trick or treat and police are calling on motorists to drive safely and watch out for children on the road. Parents and/or adults are being urged to accompany children out trick or treating.

Also Saturday is the last weekend of campaign activities, as candidates for public office reach out to voters and supporters. More campaign activities have been held throughout this week.

The Election Office urged voters to go to the polls when they open for 12 hours starting at 6am on Nov. 3rd and vote. “Vote 2020, it’s your right,” is the message emphasized by the Election Office, which will open tomorrow from 8a.m. to 12noon.

Election Office personnel will be working on the weekend including Sunday in preparation for the 2020 general election.
