PREVENTIVE HEALTH CARE GRANT

Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is welcoming a federal funding notice of about $95,000 ($94,705) this week from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The CDC, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), provided notice of this new discretionary health services grant, a preventive health block grant, for the American Samoa Department of Health.

“Thank you especially to Jasmay Willis for efforts on this grant,” said Aumua Amata. “Health care funds are always welcome news to our islands. Congratulations to Director Motusa Nua, and anyone working with this grant project, and we appreciate all our health care professionals.”

NEW TERRITORIAL LIBRARIAN

Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga has appointed Tuimalo Elvis Zodiacal as the Territorial Librarian.

“Upon consideration of the Feleti Barstow Public Library Board’s recommendation, Tuimalo Elvis Zodiacal is hereby appointed as the Territorial Librarian,” the governor said in an August 15, memo.

Tuimalo has a master’s degree in Library Science and Educational Leadership and was the Librarian at the American Samoa Community College for several years.

The Governor said Tuimalo’s strong background in education and library services highly qualifies him for the position of Territorial Librarian.

His appointment will be effective immediately.

He replaces Emma Solaita Malele who was appointed as Territorial Librarian in December of 2021.
