Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — An inmate who is serving a lengthy sentence for the murder of his brother several years ago in Aunu’u, appeared in District Court last Friday on the allegation that he stabbed another inmate with a knife inside the TCF last week.

Faufano Faauliuli is charged with one count of first degree assault, a class A felony punishable by 10-30 years imprisonment, or life. He waived his right to a preliminary examination in District Court and his case has been bound over to High Court where he will appear this morning for arraignment.

According to the government, an inmate was admitted to the LBJ Hospital last week after sustaining injuries from a stabbing at the TCF early Tuesday morning. Witnesses told investigators that Fa’auliuli used a knife to stab the victim’s neck.

A family member of the victim who spoke to Samoa News over the weekend said the injuries were severe and life threatening; however, it’s by the grace of God that the victim is now in a stable condition.

BACKGROUND

Faauliuli is serving a 30-year sentence for the death of his brother. He was initially charged with first degree murder; however, under a plea agreement, Faauliuli pled guilty to second degree murder.
