DoH receives $3 million+ health center grant

Amata with Director Motusa

Washington, D.C. — Tuesday, Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata welcomed a health care grant of over $3 million for the American Samoa Department of Health.

This grant, specifically $3,064,625 for our islands’ health centers, is discretionary funding from the U.S Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

“Thank you especially to Seiuli Elizabeth Ponausuia, and congratulations to Governor Lemanu P. S. Mauga, his administration, Director Motusa Nua and our health care professionals for all they are doing,” said Amata. “We’re always thankful for federal health care funds, and they are especially helpful at this time.”

Congress appropriated these funds in the most recent major COVID relief and economic stimulus package, the American Rescue Plan Act.
