Governor selects a woman for chief immigration officer

Gov. Lemanu Peleti Palepoi Sialega Mauga

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Fagamalama Fualaau, who has served as deputy chief of immigration at the Immigration Office, since 2013, is the new chief immigration officer, according to ASG officials.

Fualaau, a former lawmaker from Aua, who served in the House several years ago, replaces Peseta Dennis Fuimaono, who was chief immigration officer during the eight years of the Lolo Administration.

Besides serving in the House, she has also worked at the Department of Public Works for many years; as well as serving as a member of the Election board of Registration where she resigned last year.

While there have been no official records for verification, it’s believed that Fualaau is the first female chief immigration officer.
