Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Hawaiian Airlines has confirmed that it was American Samoa’s governor, who requested and the airline agreed to suspend flights between Honolulu and Pago Pago through Apr. 30th.

Gov. Lemanu Peleti Palepoi Sialega Mauga’s Jan. 30th continued COVID-19 emergency declaration didn’t specify the suspension of Hawaiian Airlines’ flights - as in past declarations by the Lolo Administration. It only says that all scheduled flights to and from American Samoa are suspended.

The Hawaiian Airlines schedule for international flights late last month shows the Pago Pago service suspension through Apr. 30th.

Asked if the latest extended suspension of flights was based on a request by Lemanu, the airline’s spokesman, Alex Da Silva responded: “That's correct, we are extending our service suspension at the request of the governor.”

While flight suspensions — since March of last year  — continues, ASG has began repatriation flights from Honolulu, with the first which arrived Feb. 1st. There is no confirmed date on the next flight.
