Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — LBJ hospital is taking advantage of the latest technologies available with its "virtual visit" program where a healthcare provider and a specialist physician from off-island connect with an LBJ patient via video cameras in real time to provide vital health care consult services.

This is outlined in the hospital’s latest newsletter.

In December 2022, LBJ tested their first TeleStroke case and its technology capabilities with a patient, a family member present, the medical team Dr Ledua, , Dr. Garvez, and MIS Director, Grayson Togilau.

On the other side, an Interventist Neurologist, Dr Mathew Koenig, from Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, managed the patient who was not stable enough to travel off-Island.

“Through cameras and high speed internet connection, he was able to examine the patient as if he was here physically by checking the eyes, viewed the cardiac monitor, the ventilator settings, and confer management with our local physicians all from afar.

“LBJ's first technology Tele-Stroke trial case was indeed a success,” the newsletter states.
