Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — At a meeting of the Republican Party of American Samoa, Aumua Amata informed GOP leadership of her intention to run for re-election, and party officials applauded her decision.

The formal nominating caucus will be announced in the coming months at a date to be determined. "I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of American Samoa," Aumua Amata said. "Together, we've accomplished so much. I'm thankful beyond expression that God has allowed this time and health and high energy to serve, and use the background I was developing all those years without knowing God's plan. Through this experience, I've been blessed to more fully learn about the lives of so many people here as I never could have imagined five years ago.

“I want nothing more than to work for public infrastructure, and in support of our teachers, health professionals, law enforcement, military families and veterans, and all our people. I look forward to asking for your vote, and thank you for your prayers for our work and God's guidance on all the elections. I am committed to spending as much time as possible with you here at home to stay closely informed of your needs and what is most important to you."

Republicans selected the following local leadership: Taulapapa William Sword as chairman; Frank Barron is the new National Committeeman; Congresswoman Aumua Amata Radewagen will serve as National Committeewoman; John Raynar is vice chairman; Tina Ioane is treasurer; and Janet Mulipola is slated to be secretary.
