Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The 31-year-old father who was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of illegal drugs after his 1-year-old son was admitted to the LBJ Hospital for methamphetamine intoxication waived his rights to a preliminary examination (PX).

Lewis Lokeni, who is not new to the court system was scheduled to appear in District Court last Thursday for his PX, however after receiving legal advice from his attorney, the defendant then waived his constitutional right to a PX and his case was bound over to the High Court for further proceedings.

Lewis appeared in High Court last Friday where he entered a not guilty plea to the charges against him. His first pretrial conference is now set for Sept. 28, 2018, and the defendant is remanded into custody unable to post a $5,000 surety bond.
