Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Since early this week, rumors have been circulating about tax refund checks being released today.

In a brief statement yesterday morning, ASG Treasurer Ueligitone Tonumaipe’a corrected what he calls  “misinformation being put out in the community” that tax refunds were being released today, Friday, July 19th.

According to Tonumaipe’a, tax refunds for Batch 5 — covering the period of Feb. 19 to March 29 — will be released next Wednesday, July 24th. And it covers both local and the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC).

Of the more than $3.18 million in total refunds, over $1.95 million is for ACTC — which is funded by the US Internal Revenue Service — and just over $1.23 million for local.

Tonumaipe’a advises all taxpayers expecting tax refunds to check first with the Tax Office before standing in line at the Treasury Disbursing Office.
