One new Zika case confirmed

The latest data from the Department of Health says the number of suspected Zika cases has increased slightly with one new confirmed case as American Samoa closes out the year 2016.

According to DOH, as of Dec. 15, there were 1,026 Zika suspected case with 61 Zika case confirmed through laboratory testing and of the total confirmed cases, 27 are pregnant women.

In the latest data, DOH says that as of Dec. 30, there were 1,036 Zika virus suspected case, with 62 confirmed through laboratory testing. Of that total 28 are pregnant women.

And with American Samoa still in the rainy season, DOH reminds the public of the 3-Ds: Drain water, defend yourself by using mosquito repellent containing DEET, and Dress protectively.
