Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Education Department (ASDOE) staffers participated at the School Lunch Program weeklong training, before staffers reported to their school assignments. The training ended last week Friday.

Private schools began their school year on Monday, and since the SLP is government run, students attending classes have to bring their own breakfast & lunch to school until ASG schools begin in September, next month — barring any unforeseen health issues.

ASG schools were to begin in August also, however health issues with mainly bathrooms and cafeterias caused classes to be delayed across the board. Maintenance & repairs of government schools has long been a problem which led to the “Adopt-a-School” program out of the governor’s office during the Lolo administration, and it continues in the Lemanu admin.
