StarKist employees first to benefit from gov's Cash Assistance Program
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — StarKist Samoa employees are the first to receive checks under Gov. Lemanu Peleti Mauga’s Cash Assistance Program (CAP), which provide aid for workers whose employment was affected due to the COVID-19 lockdown and restrictions.
The CAP for impacted workers, which is administered by the ASG Department of Human Resources, provides up to $240 per week for qualified workers who were impacted by Code Red restrictions between Feb. 22 to April 18, 2022.
StarKist Samoa, the territory’s largest private employer, was shutdown for three weeks during the Code Red lockdown. Through a partnership between the ASG-DHR and the StarKist Human Resources Department, StarKist Samoa employees were able to file CAP applications at StarKist without having to take time off from work.
A team from the ASG HR visited StarKist to distribute the first batch of checks on Friday, May 27.
