Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — A taxi driver, who was released from custody last Friday to await sentencing, is back in jail, after he tested positive for meth.

Faasasao Mauga appeared in High Court this week for his initial appearance, pursuant to a bench warrant that was issued after the court received a report from Probation, regarding the results of Mauga's random drug test this past Tuesday.

Mauga had tested negative last Friday — and thereafter released from custody — but he was ordered by Probation to stop by again on Tuesday for another test.

That second test netted positive results for meth.

Mauga, 36 then admitted to Probation that he smoked meth on Monday, Memorial Day.

He appeared in court on Wednesday where Assistant Public Defender Rob McNeill said his client admits to violating conditions of his release. As a result, Chief Justice Michael Kruse remanded Mauga back to custody at TCF. He will be sentenced July 5th.

Mauga was in High Court last Friday for a Change of Plea hearing.

Under a plea agreement, accepted by the court, he pled guilty to a lesser-amended charge, a class D felony punishable by a jail term of not more than 5 years and a fine of not more than $5,000 or both; while admitting that he had a glass pipe containing meth in his possession on the day in question.
