Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — We are heartbroken and deeply honored to pay tribute to Clara Reid, whose lifetime of service was a testament to her dedication, leadership, and commitment to the people of American Samoa. 

Clara was a proud daughter of American Samoa and demonstrated an enduring belief in the power of civic participation, democratic values, and responsible leadership. Her contributions extended far beyond her official duties, leaving a lasting influence on the political and governmental institutions that continue to serve our community today.

We also recognize Clara's role in advancing the vision as one of the original founders of the American Samoa Democratic Party during the Administration of Governor A.P. Lutali. She carried forward its mission of empowering the people through democratic principles, civic engagement, and public service.

Clara helped to build and strengthen the foundation, ensuring that future generations would continue to have a voice in shaping the future of our territory. Her service in Government reflected the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and commitment. Whether working behind the scenes or in positions of responsibility, she approached every challenge with wisdom, grace, and a deep sense of purpose. She understood that public service is a sacred trust, and she fulfilled that trust with honor and distinction.

Those who worked alongside Clara remember not only her accomplishments but also her character. She was a grandmother, mother, aunty, mentor, a trusted colleague, and a compassionate friend. Her kindness, humility, and willingness to help others earned her the admiration of all who knew her. She believed that leadership was not about recognition, but about service, and she led by example every day. 

She has served as Chair of the AS Democratic Party and in many other roles including numerous American Samoa delegations to various Democratic National Conventions and most recently serving as a delegate for past presidential nominees including Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
