Winds increase in American Samoa through Sunday night

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — With winds increasing through Sunday night, American Samoa can expect:

-Sustained Winds: Southeast around 20 mph
-Highest Gusts: Southeast around 30 mph
-Strongest winds Expected: Saturday evening - Sunday morning

THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT — Ridge to the east of Manua is slowly receding eastward. A low level convergence to the southwest will remain nearly stationary tonight and Sunday. A strong high pressure to the south of New Caledonia is expected to introduce breezy to strong trades across the islands on Sunday night through Monday night. The low level convergence to the south will move across the islands Monday morning producing numerous showers and winds conditions.

TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY — As the high pressure moves farther east, winds will shift to the east on Wednesday and its strength diminishing to gentle flow. Showers will also reduce to isolated on Wednesday as the low level convergence moves to the east of Manua.

MARINE FORECAST — Rough seas will elevate 9 to 12 ft on Sunday night as the strong trades move across the region. As the winds diminishes on Wednesday, rough seas will also subside below advisory levels.
