There is a possible world champion emerging in the sport of Weightlifting and he is from the territory of American Samoa. He is ranked #1 in Oceania in the 56kg class in Weightlifting and #2 in the 62kg class. His name is Nevo Ioane and he trains with the Weightlifting Association of American Samoa (WAAS).The 23-year old Ioane, just recently returned from the 2011 World Weightlifting Championships, that were held in Paris, France from November 5-13, where he placed 2nd in his group competing in the 62kg class, but did not medal, due to problems with cramps in his legs.According to the president of the WAAS, Toetagata Albert Mailo, if Ioane lifted in the 56kg in Paris, he would have cracked the top 20 in the world, \probably around number 14 or 15.\\He is the first Samoan to compete for American Samoa in the World Weightlifting Championships
