“LET’S WORK TOGETHER”

Dear Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga,

Please define for American Samoa Social Distancing because what I am seeing happening right now is militant tactics as if we were at Code Martial Law.  We are still at Code Blue.  Please stay the course and don't give in to these fear tactics and militant responses, instead work with the people of American Samoa.  We're all in this together.

The residents, of American Samoa are trying our best to stay calm through this whole COVID 19 situation.  There is already a lot of tension with what is going on in the world, with trying to provide for our families and keep food on the table, with trying to make sure the water/electricity doesn't get cut off, and with trying to be in compliance with the laws.  But now with the government adding on all these additional processes that that make no kind of sense, it's enough to push people over and it feels like harassment.  Examples:

Closing of Cost U Less / ACE:

These stores are a necessity for families to buy groceries and needed supplies.  If it's a huge warehouse there can be more than 10 people inside if they PRACTICE social distancing by staying 6 feet away from each other. (Why are they shutting down Cost U Less and Ace?)

Public Transportation/Buses:

If we're on public transportation buses, what can you do except ensure that there's only two people per seat and that everybody be required to wear face masks. That's all we can do.  Us who haven't been afforded the luxury of ASG vehicles still have to go on with our lives and get from point A to point B.

Why is the police stopping the bus and telling the driver he is only suppose to have 10 people on the bus?  He's gonna say to himself, "then why drive if I can't earn my daily amount needed?" Some days I wait an hour for my bus and now to be told no bcuz there's more than 10 people is ridiculous. Can ASG provide free taxis?)

Private Vehicles:

Families are doing what they need to. Nobody has the right to tell them how they treat their personal vehicle. Remember, we're only at Code Blue, we are NOT at Code Martial Law.  (Why are police stopping vehicles and harassing them?)

Nobody is above the law, and certainly not the police. There is no law giving them the right to pull people over that have more than two people in their private vehicle.

Police kicking people out of the EOB:

This was a much needed program, actually it's the governor's own amnesty program. People took the time to get over there and stand in line. Instead of kicking people out, why didn't they work with the agency and the people on how to be more organized and keep with social distancing instead of kicking them out?  E.g. give them numbers.  1-10 come back at 9:00, 11-20 come back at 11:00, etc. Simple. Work with the people, not at the people.

We're all in this together.  Let's help each other to stay safe and practice safety measures.
