National Medal of Honor Day commemorated in Washington D.C.
Washington, DC — Congresswoman Aumua Amata commemorated National Medal of Honor Day yesterday and released the following statement:
"On March 25, 1963, the nation's first Medals of Honor were presented, recognizing heroic service to the country.
“In 1991, President George H. W. Bush commemorated the first National Medal of Honor Day, also on March 25th, beginning a yearly tradition of remembering all of the Medal of Honor recipients in this way. It has been celebrated every year since, and is a wonderful opportunity for us to pause in gratitude of these patriots. They are forever part of our nation's history because of their valor and sacrifice in the cause of freedom.
“We appreciate our own veterans and our many service men and women from American Samoa, who are often in our thoughts.”
