Auckland, NEW ZEALAND — A self-funded feature film by Pacific filmmakers about six Samoan men growing up in South Auckland is being premiered on Thursday night.

Brown Boys director, writer and actor Hans Masoe told TVNZ1's Breakfast that "I wanted to tell a story that I knew and something that was relatable to remind people that these are our boys.”

He says it is important to go and watch it as it supports New Zealand's culture.

"We have to go out there and support each other so we can make more of these films. Hopefully this is just the beginning so we can see a lot more of ourselves [culture] in the future."
