Carson, CALIFORNIA — City of Carson, California prepares to WELCOME the Los Angeles Invitational – LA Sevens World Rugby Series event on February 29 and March 1, 2020.

Los Angeles county has one of the largest populations of Pacific Islanders in mainland United States, and the city of Carson located in the heart of the SouthBay, is currently home to a large population of Polynesians, with approximately 20% of the community demographic made up of Pacific Islanders.

Carson, is also home to the beautiful Dignity Health Sports Park which houses Los Angeles’ professional soccer club, The Los Angeles Galaxy. With such a diverse community demographic, the City of Carson, and all its supportive community members were all too honored to welcome the Sevens World Rugby Series to our city, and to honor the sport found on essentially every island throughout the South Pacific.

Continuing in this tradition, the City of Carson’s Girls High School Rugby Team & The Lady Spartans Rugby Club team, is currently made up of a large Senior Class that may arguably be one of the most, if not the most highly decorated and high-achieving groups of rugby girls’ teams to lace it up.

This year’s team is based in our beloved city of Carson, and is led by Head Coach Myron Mailo and Assistant Coach Maggie Moala, both of whom put in tireless volunteer hours coaching, training, conditioning and preparing our girls for the elite levels of success. Over the past couple of years, accomplishments include:

-2019 Girls HS National Division 1 15s Champions
-2018 & 2019 Southern California HS Girls 7s Champions
-2018 & 2019 Northern California Tournament 15s Champions
-2018 & 2019 Cal State 7s Champions
-2018 Vegas 7s U18 Open Champions
-2018 Vegas 7s U16 Champions
and many more!

12 high school championships over the last two-years, and our Carson HS Girls Rugby Team is currently undefeated. Perhaps our most impressive and proudest accomplishment as a team has been the signing and committing of every single one of our senior players to the nation’s top college Women’s Rugby programs in universities throughout the United States. These seniors include:

So if you haven’t considered rugby before, our Carson HS Girls Rugby and South Bay Lady Spartan Rugby Club invite you to come out and consider rugby now.
