Washington, D.C. — In January, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed the opportunity to visit the U.S. Mint headquarters in Washington, D.C., meet with Director David J. Ryder, learn more about the process and programs at the U.S. Mint, and enjoy an early look at the soon to be released quarter honoring American Samoa.

The new quarter has an artistic rendering of the distinctive Samoan fruit bats, known to be among the world’s largest flying mammals. The coin is part of the America the Beautiful Quarters Program by the U.S. Mint. Each coin program is authorized by the U.S. Congress as a way to celebrate and honor various American places, events, and historical figures.

This one celebrates American Samoa! It is one of five National Parks that will be honored this year by the U.S. Mint program. Governor Lolo is welcoming Director Ryder for the announcement and official launch of the 2020 National Park of American Samoa quarter on Thursday, February 13, 2020, at Su’igaula o le Atuvasa, Utulei Beach Park, Route 1, Utulei, AS 96799 at 10 AM.
