Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — If you're thinking about throwing some turkey tails in the umu this Thanksgiving, you might want to think again. The price of turkey tails “increased for the third consecutive” month by 3.3% since August, according to the October Basic Food Index (BFI) report released by the ASG Commerce Department Statistics Division which surveyed selected seven major food outlets for the monthly survey.

At the end of October, average retail prices for 10 out of 20 food items covered in the BFI survey did not change from the previous month.

According to the BFI report, cost of eggs continues to drop by 0.5% as well as pork spare ribs, rice and milk, but substantial increases in cost of a 22 pound boxes of chicken legs, fresh fish, bread, turkey tails, mayonnaise and corned beef results in the monthly increase.

It also says that the 22-pound box of chicken legs registered the greatest monthly price increase for October while port spareribs recorded the greatest month over month price decrease.
