Rowdy suspect arrested after alleged assault at Lion’s Park
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On November 4, 2025, an affidavit was filed in the district court concerning a suspect who called the Tafuna Police Substation and reported that he was assaulted at Lions Park by being pushed into the fence by a man.
He was later arrested and charged with Count 1: Public Peace Disturbance, a class B misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to six months, a fine not to exceed $500, or both imprisonment and fine.
The defendant's bail was set at $500.
According to the court affidavit, on Nov 3rd, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Kevin Harris, later identified as the suspect, called the TPS to report that he had been assaulted at the tennis court at Lion's Park.
Police officers responded to the call and, upon arrival at the scene, were waved down by Harris. He approached the officers and started demanding to know who their leading Supervisor was. The authorities informed the suspect that they were there to help him, but the suspect started getting aggressive and yelled at the officers.
The suspect did not believe that the officers were being honest with him, and also refused to answer the police.
One of the responding officers exited the unit and headed towards the area where the suspect claimed he was assaulted to talk to witnesses. Officers interviewed the witnesses while other officers stayed with the suspect and questioned him. The suspect continued to ignore the officers and remained disruptive, making demeaning statements.
The suspect also threw his pack of cigarettes on the ground and demanded that one of the officers pick it up. The officer told the suspect to pick it up, but he refused.
Statements gathered from the witnesses all agreed — that the suspect was yelling profanities and disturbing the peace while children were playing tennis.
The officers then apprehended the suspect, but he resisted. The officers were able to subdue the suspect, but he continued his threats. Harris kept telling the officers that "his uncle has a higher rank than the officers and that he was going to fire them in an instant".
While escorting the suspect to the police unit, the suspect refused to enter, so an officer intervened, grabbed his legs, and lifted him into the unit. While inside the police unit, the suspect remained disruptive.
Upon arrival at the station, the suspect continued to disturb the peace and started hitting his head and accused one of the female officers of touching his private parts. The suspect also alleged that another officer sexually harassed him.
One of the officers witnessed and testified that none of the suspect's statements was true.
Moreover, the suspect then yelled, "Take me to jail already!" When he was told to take a seat, the suspect sat on the chair and started sliding down. The suspect was asked to sit up straight, but he told the officers he was comfortable. He then yelled at the officers, telling them to leave him alone and to close the door.
The suspect also refused to be Mirandized. He was later booked and confined at the Tafuna Correctional Facility, to await the next available sitting of the District Court.
