Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — American Samoa is getting an economic boost of more than $3.5 million, through tax refunds for Batch #7, which the ASG Treasury Department says will be released tomorrow, Thursday, May 25, 2023, giving consumers who are getting refunds additional buying power.

In a brief statement late yesterday morning, ASG Treasurer Malemo L. Tausaga announced that a total of 996 taxpayers who filed on Feb. 22 to partial of Feb. 28, 2023 — for tax year 2022 — will be getting their refunds through direct deposits, the U.S Post Office and pick up at the Treasury’s Disbursing Office on the ground floor of the A.P. Lutali Executive Office Building (EOB) in Utulei.

Of the total of more than $3.57 million for Batch #7, Treasury says that just over $1.76 million is funded with local revenues; $634,229 for the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) and over $1.17 million in the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

The ACTC and EITC portions of tax refunds are federally funded.

Treasury says that if you were expecting your refund and did not receive it, please call (633-4181) or visit the Tax Office — the ground floor of the EOB — for further information and assistance.

The latest tax refund batch comes at a time when the territory is preparing for the upcoming three-day weekend, with Memorial Day next week Monday, both a local and federal holiday. And recipients of the tax refunds will spend it to buy paint for family graves and fresh flowers.

Any left over will be for the holiday celebration, but be aware,  police will be patrolling the roads.
